Welcome !!

We are the Taiwan Ocean Research Institute (TORI). For a long time, we have been looking to uncover secrets and find answers in the darkest and most mysterious part of our world – the ocean. Our exploration activities, including mid-range and long-range coastal observations, satellite remote sensing, core sampling, and many others, have allowed us to procure precious maritime data where we store and manage in our Marine Environmental Databank (MED). This gives TORI the opportunity to organize and further analyze these data in order to provide better applications and services to the public.

Shipboard Data

This databank has a collection of data obtained during exploration activities conducted on research vessels, including data of exploration, sampling, hydrological studies, ocean current, marine weather, and more.

Cruise - LGD-2101
Chief - Je?Yuan Hsu(OCNTU)
Area - Okinawa Trough

TOROS

The high-frequency CODAR system has the ability to observe in near-real-time and high spatial resolution at long range. It is not only lower in cost, but provides an advantage for around-the-clock observation. It is currently considered one of the best tools for monitoring surface ocean current and marine weather in Taiwan’s maritime territory.

Content - Surface Ocean Current
Rate - per hour

Remote Sensing

Remote sensing uses satellites to conduct long range indirect observations. It is a powerful tool for large-scale ocean observation as well as ecological dynamic features and biogeochemical flux research.

Content - SST,SSC,Sal
Rate - per day
Update - daily

MOOST

TORI’s anchored observation network targets Taiwan’s southern sea territory and the east coast (northwestern Pacific Ocean) for long term observation. It records data of maritime weather, ocean currents, and hydrology, allowing the display of near-real-time data possible.
